An appeal and update by the Embassy of Nepal in Ottawa

Nepal was struck by severe flash floods on 26 August 2026, resulting in loss of life, widespread displacement and extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructures.

Nepal’s security and disaster-management agencies, local authorities and health services have been fully mobilized for search and rescue, evacuation, emergency medical assistance and relief operations. Authorities are also closely monitoring river systems and downstream flood risks.

So far, 675 bodies have recovered. Many Nepalis and foreign nationals are still missing. According to the latest available information, 2498 people have been reported missing that includes 589 foreign nationals among which 25 are Canadian. These figures remain subject to verification as search and rescue operations continue.

In view of the extensive damage caused by the floods, the Government of Nepal continues to assess the situation and emerging needs on the ground and, where necessary, communicate specific requirements for assistance through established official channels. The scale of destruction is unprecedented and the need for relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation ahead stands enormous.

Therefore, the Government of Nepal has appealed to all within the country and outside to contribute donations to the Government of Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. All interested Nepalis, diaspora members as well as our friends and well-wishers all over the world, both individuals and organizations, may wish to contribute to the Fund directly. Every cent contributed will be accounted for and utilized to the relief and rehabilitation of the affected people and rebuilding of the damaged infrastructures.

The Embassy therefore appeals to all members of our diaspora, friends and well-wishers of Nepal to extend financial donation directly to the Fund created by the Government of Nepal. Donation may be made through this portal: https://pmdrf.nchl.com.np/.

The system is easy to use and seamlessly accepts international/domestic cards (Visa/Master Card) and Nepal-based mobile banking or digital wallets. Please verify the authenticity of the bank account ‘Government of Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund’ and details before making contribution.
