His Excellency Mr. Bhrigu Dhungana, Ambassador of Nepal to Canada, presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Right Honorable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada today amidst a special ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Ambassador Dhungana was received in audience by the Governor General of Canada following the presentation of Credentials. During the audience, Ambassador Dhungana conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from The Right Honourable Bidya Devi Bhandari, President, and The Right Honourable K. P Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal, to the Governor General of Canada for her personal health and happiness as well as for the continuous progress and prosperity of the people of Canada.
His Excellency Mr. Dhungana shared with the Governor General the current priorities of the Government of Nepal. He said that with the promulgation of the democratic and progressive constitution in 2015 and successfully holding the elections of all three tiers of federal setup, the political transition has effectively ended. He further said that the focus is now on socio-economic transformation. ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ is Nepal’s national aspiration. Informing that Nepal’s immediate goal is to become a middle-income country and achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, he stated that meeting these targets would require huge resources. While thanking the Government of Canada on behalf of the Government of Nepal for cooperation to date in the deevelopment efforts of Nepal, he expressed hope of enhanced engagement between the two countries in advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in the years to come.
Her Excellency the Governor General of Canada appreciated the excellent relations existing between Nepal and Canada and expressed the commitment of the Government of Canada for further strengthening bilateral ties.
Present on the occasion were high ranking officials of the Government of Canada including those of the Global Affairs Canada.
During the ceremony, His Excellency Mr. Dhungana was accompanied by his spouse, family members and the officials of the Embassy of Nepal in Ottawa
