The embassy issues tourist Electronic Travel Authorization- ETA (visa) to the holders of Canadian passports and travel documents. The Embassy has separate application requirements for holders of Canadian passports and holders of Canadian travel documents. The Embassy also issues visa to the holders of Diplomatic/Official passports.
A. Canadian passport holders can apply for Electronic Travel Authorization- ETA (visa) with the following documents at the Embassy:
- The printed copy of the “Online Visa Application” confirmation page, (Please complete Online Visa Application HERE)
- Original Passport with more than 6 months of validity,
- Visa fee in the form of Money Order or Bank Draft in the name of the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa, (visa fee in Canadian dollars can be paid by debit card for in -person applications only)
- A prepaid self-addressed express return envelope with tracking number. (not required for in-person applications)
Application processing time- 4 business days
Additional information for Canadian passport holders:
- Canadian passport holders can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and at the other designated entry points in Nepal. They are suggested to apply for visa-on arrival before their travel and carry printed-out confirmation page and visa fee in cash (US$ 30 for 15 days, US$ 50 for 30 days and US$ 125 for 90 days) while travelling. - Visa applications can be submitted in-person by those living in Ottawa. All other applicants must send their applications by post to the following address:

B. Canadian travel document holders must apply for Electronic Travel Authorization- ETA (visa) with the following documents at the Embassy:
- The printed copy of the “Online Visa Application” confirmation page, (Please complete Online Visa Application HERE)
- Original travel document with more than 6 months of validity,
- Sponsorship Letter from a Nepali Citizen who lives in Nepal addressed to the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa, (The letter must be signed by the sponsor and contain contact details (mobile and email) of her/him. Sample letter can be downloaded here)
- A copy of the Nepali citizenship certificate of the sponsor,
- Visa fee in the form of Money Order or Bank Draft in the name of the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa. (Amount as mentioned in Canadian dollars in the printed-out copy of the confirmation page)
- A prepaid self-addressed express return envelope with tracking number.
Application processing time- at least 2 weeks

- The applicants must select 'Refugee (as defined in Article 1)' in Country category, while submitting the application online.
- Please provide your phone number in the printed application form (by writing with hand in the printed application) so that the embassy would be able to contact the applicants, if needed.
- Travel Document holders are not eligible for visa on-arrival to Nepal. They should apply visa at the Embassy.
- The applicants should book airlines tickets only after the issuance of visa/ETA.
C. Visa Fee:
- 15 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 45.00
- 30 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 70.00
- 90 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 180.00
Note:
- Holders Refugee travel document, and nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, Iran and Zimbabwe must obtain visa/ETA before travelling to Nepal.
- Nepal has designated 14 entry/exit points for tourists (3 international airports in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Bhairahwa, and 11 immigration offices in Kakarvitta, Birgunj, Kodari, Belahia, Jamunaha, Mohana, Gaddachauki, Hilsa, Rasuwagadhi, Biratnagar and Korala).
- Travellers should present the ETA issued by the Embassy at an immigration desk at the entry points in Nepal where the ETA will be converted into a corresponding visa, and the printed visa will be affixed on to the passport. In case the ETA is lost, visitor can still present the passport/travel document that was submitted to obtain ETA from the Embassy.
- Visa fee once paid cannot be refunded. Visa can be used within six months from the date of issue.
- Application may be returned if the required documents are not complete.
- The Embassy will not entertain application applied to offices other than the 'Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa'.
- Check the personal details (document number, date of birth, and others) before sending the application to the Embassy. Visa once issued with incorrect details need to complete all process to be corrected along with repayment of visa fee.

Diplomatic/Official Visa Application
Diplomatic/Official visa shall be issued by the Embassy to Diplomatic/Official passport holders for a period of 30 days. The validity thereof may be extended, if required, from the Department of Consular Services, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
Required Documents for a Diplomatic/Official Visa:
- The printed copy of the “Online Visa Application” confirmation page (Complete “Online Visa Application HERE),
- Original Passport with more than 6 months of validity,
- A diplomatic note from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Canada/diplomatic mission/ international organization with a request for a diplomatic/official visa, stating clearly the purpose and period of the visit,
- A travel itinerary.
Application Processing Time: 2-4 business days. Incomplete application or other reasons may delay the processing time.
