Visa-on-Arrival:

Bonafide Canadian Citizens holding valid Canadian passport can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and at the other designated entry points in Nepal. To avoid queue at the airport, Canadian Citizens may wish to obtain Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) from the Embassy before travelling.

For visa-on-arrival, please make sure you have:

  1. Passport having validity of at least 6 months
  2. Visa fee in cash (US$ 30 for 15 days, US$ 50 for 30 days and US$ 125 for 90 days)

Requirement to Obtain Visa/ETA:

However, the following visitors must obtain a visa/ETA from the Embassy of Nepal before travelling to Nepal:

a) Persons holding Refugee travel document, and

b) Nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria and Zimbabwe

Entry/Exit Points:

The followings are the designated entry/exit points for foreigners for entering into and departing from Nepal:

  1. Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu
  2. Immigration Office, Pokhara (not an entry point)
  3. Immigration Office, Kakarvitta, Jhapa
  4. Immigration Office, Birganj, Parsa
  5. Immigration Office, Kodari, Sindhupalchowk
  6. Immigration Office, Belahia, Bhairahawa
  7. Immigration Office, Jamunaha, Nepalgunj
  8. Immigration Office, Mohana, Dhangadhi
  9. Immigration Office, Gaddachauki, Mahendranagar

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA):

  1. The Government of Nepal has introduced Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in place of visa stickers/handwritten visas to all visa applicants. Accordingly, the Embassy has started to issue ETA effective from 25 August 2023. The visitor should present the ETA issued by the Embassy at an immigration desk at the entry points in Nepal where the ETA will be converted into a corresponding visa, and the printed visa will be affixed on to the passport. In case the ETA is lost, visitor can still present the passport/travel document that was submitted to obtain ETA from the Embassy.
  2. ETA is valid up to 6 months from the date of issuance.
  3. The Embassy reserves the right to grant or refuse visas.
  4. All other requirements and processes, including the submission of physical passports, remain the same.

Documents and Processes for Visa/ETA application:

Tourist Visa Application

A. Complete “Online Visa Application” can be found HERE

B. Documents to be submitted for Tourist Visa:

  1. The printed copy of the “Online Visa Application” confirmation page,
  2. Original Passport with at least 6 months of validity,
  3. Visa fee in the form of Money Order or Bank Draft in the name of the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa. Applicants submitting visa application in person may pay the fee by debit card.
  4. A prepaid self-addressed express return envelope with tracking number.

C. Additional Documents Required for a Travel Document Holder

  1. Sponsorship Letter from a Nepali Citizen addressed to the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa.
  2. A copy of the citizenship certificate of the sponsor.

E. Visa Fee:

  1. 15 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 45.00
  2. 30 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 70.00
  3. 90 days Multiple Entry Tourist Visa - CAD 180.00

F. Application Processing Time:

It takes normally 1-4 business days for processing of visa/ETA application.

However, incomplete application or other reasons may delay the processing time.

Note:
1. Children below 10 years of age are issued Free Visas (Gratis Visas)
2. Personal Cheques, Credit Cards or online bank transfers are NOT acceptable.
3. Visa fee once paid cannot be refunded. Visa can be used within six months from the date of issue.
4. Application may be returned if the required documents are not complete.

Diplomatic/Official Visa Application

Diplomatic/Official visa shall be issued by the Embassy to Diplomatic/Official passport holders for a period of 30 days. The validity thereof may be extended, if required, from the Department of Consular Services, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.

A. Required Documents For a Diplomatic/Official Visa:

1. The printed copy of the “Online Visa Application” confirmation page
2. Original Passport with at least 6 months of validity
3. A diplomatic note from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Canada/diplomatic mission/ international organization with a request for a diplomatic/official visa, stating clearly the purpose and period of the visit.
4. A travel itinerary.
